District Opener on the Road
The Lady Vikings only needed 13 seconds to get the first district goal of the season. Sophomore, Savannah Meyers intercepted a pass off the kick off, played Avery Hutka down the flank and got the return pass back in front of goal and made it count. That was the second fastest opening goals in the history of the program. Back in 2011, Nolan Catholic opened district play on the road against Ursuline scoring just 9 seconds into the match and who can't forget last year in the Final Four the Lady Viking goal against the Bears just 32 seconds in.
With 3 goals in the first half and 3 goals in the second half, the Lady Vikings improve to 1-0-0 in district play on goals by Avery Hutka, Avery Pick, and Victoria Clark and 2 by Izzy Van Zanten.
Head coach, Jay Fitzgerald said, "The win is great but to just be able to play is even better."
The Lady Vikings are 2 games into the season, 4, if you include early season scrimmages vs Bishop Lynch (win 3-1) and Greenhill (win 8-0).
Defensively the Lady Vikings don't allow many chances as center backs, Grace Gnatovic and Beatrice Birbeck combined with goalkeeper, Alle Steining stay consistent and pick right off where they left off last year conceding the least amount of goals in program history.
Paola Vazquez, Madison Ginani, Hampton Hohenberger, Avery Hutka, Savannah Meyers, and Avery Pick all had assists on the evening.
Next Up for the Lady Vikings is Texas Storm on Monday morning at 10:00am at home. The match will be LIVE Streamed presented by Viking TV at nchsvikings.com.
